Use it as a draft, not a shortcut
Training depends on writing notes that show your own thinking. An AI draft can take the transcription work off your hands, but the assessment and plan should reflect what you and your team decided. Read every draft, rewrite the assessment in your own words when it matters, and never paste a note you have not checked.
Check your programme's and hospital's policy on AI documentation tools before you use one. Some departments want their approval first; some forbid it on certain wards. ClearPass cannot tell you what your employer allows.
Presenting to your senior
After a clinic patient, the Ask box can turn the note into a short verbal-style summary for presenting to your consultant or attending: one line of background, the key findings, your proposed plan. That keeps the presentation focused and gives your senior the same facts that are in the note.
When your supervisor changes the plan, update the note before it goes into the chart. Ask ClearPass in plain words ('change the plan to outpatient imaging and review in two weeks') and then reread the result.

Rotations, devices and history
Residents move between wards, clinics and sometimes hospitals. ClearPass runs in the browser, so it goes wherever you have a device and a connection. Notes are kept in the browser on the device where they were written, not synced and not stored on ClearPass servers.
That has two consequences. A note written on a ward computer will not appear on your phone. And if you use a shared workstation, keep a short auto-delete period and use your own browser profile or your own device where hospital policy allows. The copy that counts is the one in the hospital's EMR.
Letters and discharge paperwork
Residents often draft the letters their seniors sign. From the same visit ClearPass drafts a referral letter, a medical report, patient instructions or a sick note, and suggests ICD-10 codes where your country uses them. Your senior still reviews and signs according to local rules.
On call and in the emergency department
Overnight, documentation competes with everything else. If your hospital allows it, transcribing the clerking of a new admission saves the most time, because the history is long and the note is detailed. Choose Full headings or New patient, and speak your examination findings aloud as you examine.
Be careful with speed. At three in the morning it is tempting to paste the draft unread. Do not. Check allergies, current medications, and the plan you actually agreed with the senior on call. The numbers check will mark figures that were never said, but it cannot tell you whether the right patient's results were discussed; that is your job.

Privacy
Clinical note content is not stored on ClearPass servers: it is processed to write the note, then discarded. Consultation audio is transcribed and discarded, never stored. Your note history stays in your browser, on your device, and you choose how long it is kept. Common identifiers are removed from typed and transcribed text before it reaches the AI; that is a best-effort safeguard, so leave names, ID numbers and file numbers out where you can. Processing goes through the AI providers named in our Privacy Policy, which sets out exactly what each one receives and how long it keeps it. ClearPass does not sign HIPAA business associate agreements today.

Can it help with discharge summaries?
It can draft a medical report or a summary from a conversation or from typed notes, including the key results you paste or photograph. Check every medication change and follow-up arrangement against the chart before it is sent.
Is it free for trainees?
