First, what Heidi already covers

Before switching, check whether Heidi's own plans solve the problem. Its pricing page lists a Free plan with unlimited transcription and standard templates, a Clinician plan with a 14-day trial, and a Teams plan with EHR integration, SSO and custom hosting. Its download page offers iOS, Android, Windows and macOS apps. Its compliance page says it makes a BAA available to every covered entity it works with, and its developer documentation lists many languages for notes and documents.

That is a broad offer. The alternatives below are worth a look when a particular need is not met, not because Heidi is lacking in general.

Options by reason

You want a fixed monthly price and a signed BAA without a sales call. Twofold's pricing explainer states $69 a month, or $49 a month billed annually, and its security page says every account gets a signed BAA. It has iOS and Android apps and serves mental health and allied health as well as medicine.
You want a cheap plan for a light caseload. Freed's Starter plan is advertised from $39 a month for up to 40 notes. Higher plans add unlimited notes, coding, letters and EHR push into browser-based EHRs; Premier is $119 a month, or $104 a month on annual billing.
Your hospital wants deep EHR integration. Nabla sells to health organisations and names integrations with Epic, athenahealth, Oracle Health, NextGen, Greenway Health and Arya EHR. No public price was shown on its site.
Insurance letters take as much time as notes. ClearPass writes the note and then, from the same visit, a prior authorization letter or a denied-claim appeal, plus referral letters, sick notes and codes. It runs in the browser, writes notes in English only and has no EMR connection.

Who each one suits

Freed: an individual clinician in a browser-based EHR who wants to start small and move up a tier when needed.
Twofold: therapists, allied health and physicians who need a BAA and a phone app at a known price.
Nabla: a health system or group with an informatics team and a major EHR.
ClearPass: a doctor in private or outpatient practice who handles approvals and denials and is happy to paste notes into the EMR.
Staying on Heidi: anyone who needs notes in a language other than English, or wants a free plan rather than a trial.

Privacy

Clinical note content is not stored on ClearPass servers: it is processed to write the note, then discarded. Consultation audio is transcribed and discarded, never stored. Your note history stays in your browser, on your device, and you choose how long it is kept. Common identifiers are removed from typed and transcribed text before it reaches the AI; that is a best-effort safeguard, so leave names, ID numbers and file numbers out where you can. Processing goes through the AI providers named in our Privacy Policy, which sets out exactly what each one receives and how long it keeps it. ClearPass does not sign HIPAA business associate agreements today.
