Freed alternatives

Freed is a popular choice for individual clinicians, with a Starter tier that caps notes and higher tiers that add coding, letters and EHR push. If the tier you need costs more than you want to pay, or a feature is missing, several other tools are worth a trial. Every fact below comes from the vendor's own site.

Freed's pricing page shows Starter from $39 a month with up to 40 notes, Core with unlimited notes and a template builder, and Premier at $119 a month or $104 a month on annual billing. Premier is where visit summaries, patient instructions, letters, referrals, EHR push, dictation and ICD-10 and CPT coding appear. All individual plans come with a 7-day trial and no card. Freed's multilingual page says visits can happen in many languages and the SOAP note is generated in English.

So the question is usually one of three things: the price of Premier, the English-only note, or a need Freed does not cover.

Four tools to compare

Heidi Health. Its pricing page shows a Free plan with unlimited transcription, and paid Clinician and Teams plans; paid figures are shown per region and were not readable when we checked. Its developer documentation lists many languages for notes as well as transcription. Apps exist for iOS, Android, Windows and macOS. Its compliance page says it makes a BAA available to every covered entity. Suits clinicians who want a free plan or non-English notes.
Twofold. $69 a month, or $49 a month billed annually, per its pricing explainer, with unlimited notes, coding and the AI assistant in the one personal plan. A signed BAA comes with every account and there are iOS and Android apps. Suits clinicians who want everything in one price and a BAA, including therapists.
Nabla. Aimed at health organisations, with named integrations into Epic, athenahealth, Oracle Health, NextGen and others, plus dictation and E/M and ICD-10 coding. No public price found. Suits clinicians whose employer is choosing a scribe for a whole group.
ClearPass. One plan after a 7-day trial with no card. Notes in English from visits in most languages, letters and ICD-10 and procedure codes included, plus prior authorization letters and denial appeals from the same visit. Browser app with no EMR link and no BAA today. Suits doctors who deal with insurance paperwork and paste notes into their system.

Before you switch

Export or copy any templates you built in Freed; you will want to set them up again. In ClearPass that means writing your headings once in My own structure. Then run the same visits through the new tool for a few days. Look for changed wording in your usual sections, missing negatives, and any number that appears in the note but was never said. What ClearPass does not do

It does not replace your judgement. Every note is an AI draft that you review and correct before it is used.
It is not a medical device and does not make clinical decisions. It is a documentation aid.
It does not connect to your EMR. The note is copy-ready text that pastes into any system.

Privacy

Clinical note content is not stored on ClearPass servers: it is processed to write the note, then discarded. Consultation audio is transcribed and discarded, never stored. Your note history stays in your browser, on your device, and you choose how long it is kept. Common identifiers are removed from typed and transcribed text before it reaches the AI; that is a best-effort safeguard, so leave names, ID numbers and file numbers out where you can. Processing goes through the AI providers named in our Privacy Policy, which sets out exactly what each one receives and how long it keeps it. ClearPass does not sign HIPAA business associate agreements today.

What is the cheapest alternative to Freed?

Heidi lists a Free plan. Among paid plans with a published price on this page, Twofold's annual rate of $49 a month is the lowest figure we found for unlimited notes.

Which alternatives include coding in the base plan?

Twofold lists CPT and ICD coding in its personal plan. ClearPass includes ICD-10 and procedure codes in its one plan. Heidi lists coding with limited use on its Free plan.

Does any alternative push notes into my EHR like Freed Premier?

Nabla names integrations with major EHRs and Heidi lists EHR integration on its Teams plan. ClearPass does not connect to any EMR.

What does ClearPass cost?

The 7-day trial is free, needs no card and simply ends after 7 days, with no automatic charge. After that there is one plan: $78 a month or $858 a year, with every visit transcribed.
